Survey Builder Overview

The Survey Builder is where you create and customize your surveys. This guide will help you understand the interface and all its features.

Accessing the Builder

Open the survey builder by:

  1. Creating a new survey (you’ll be taken there automatically)
  2. Clicking “Edit” on any existing survey from your dashboard
  3. Clicking the “Builder” tab in the survey navigation

Builder Interface Layout

The builder is divided into three main areas:

Left Panel - Settings & Questions

This panel has two tabs:

Settings Tab

  • Survey title and description
  • Branding options (logo, theme)
  • Display settings
  • Access control
  • Welcome and thank you messages
  • Advanced options

Questions Tab

  • List of all questions
  • Add new questions
  • Reorder questions (drag and drop)
  • Delete or duplicate questions

Center Panel - Question Editor

When you select a question, this area shows:

  • Question text editor
  • Help text field
  • Answer options (for applicable types)
  • Required toggle
  • Question-specific settings

Right Panel - Preview

See a live preview of your survey:

  • Updates in real-time as you edit
  • Toggle between Desktop and Mobile views
  • Test question navigation
  • Preview themes and branding

Key Features

Auto-Save

Your work is automatically saved:

  • Saves every 30 seconds
  • Save indicator shows status
  • Never lose your progress
  • Manual save also available

Question Type Picker

Add new questions using the type picker:

  1. Click “Add Question” in the Questions tab
  2. Browse question types by category
  3. Select the type you need
  4. Question is added to your survey

Drag and Drop Reordering

Reorganize questions easily:

  1. Hover over a question in the list
  2. Click and hold the drag handle
  3. Drag to the new position
  4. Release to drop

Preview Modes

Test your survey in different views:

  • Desktop - Full-width preview
  • Mobile - Simulated phone screen
  • Interactive - Click through your survey

At the top of the builder, you’ll find tabs to access different survey sections:

Builder Toolbar

The toolbar provides quick actions:

  • Save - Manually save your work
  • Preview - Open full preview modal
  • Settings - Quick access to survey settings
  • Undo/Redo - Reverse or restore changes

Working with Questions

Selecting a Question

Click on any question in the list to:

  • Edit its content
  • Modify settings
  • View in preview

Question Actions

Each question has a context menu with:

  • Duplicate - Create a copy
  • Delete - Remove the question
  • Logic - Set conditional visibility

Required vs Optional

Toggle whether a question must be answered:

  • Required questions show a red asterisk (*)
  • Respondents cannot skip required questions
  • Optional questions can be left blank
